Overview
We are seeking an experienced Physical Security Estimator to support the development, pricing, and planning of security system projects. The ideal candidate has a strong technical understanding of electronic security systems, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to translate customer requirements into accurate, competitive estimates. This role is essential in supporting business development, project management, and operational success through precise cost modeling and scope definition.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed estimates and proposals for physical security projects, including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, intercom, and related low-voltage systems.
Review RFPs, construction drawings, specifications, and site survey data to produce accurate take-offs and bill of materials.
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and project management teams to ensure alignment on scope, pricing, and project deliverables.
Conduct site visits as needed to assess conditions, verify requirements, and refine project scope.
Prepare labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead cost estimates consistent with company standards and industry best practices.
Identify value-engineering opportunities and recommend alternatives to optimize cost and performance.
Assist with technical solution design, system layouts, and product selection based on client needs and project requirements.
Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and up-to-date product information.
Support proposal writing, documentation, and submission processes.
Participate in handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
Qualifications
3–7+ years of experience estimating physical security or low-voltage systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion, IP networking, etc.).
Strong knowledge of manufacturers such as LenelS2, Genetec, Avigilon, Bosch, HID, and similar technologies.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and technical specifications.
Proficiency with estimating tools, take-off software, and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
Familiarity with system design principles, cable pathways, network infrastructure, and installation standards.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills across sales, engineering, and operations departments.
Preferred Attributes
Experience working with integrators or low-voltage contractors.
Certifications such as PSP, CPP, CCURE, Genetec, or manufacturer-specific credentials.
Understanding of industry standards (NFPA, NEC, UL, local building codes).
