Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director – Mechanical to lead and oversee mechanical engineering projects within a multidisciplinary MEP consulting environment. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise, leadership skills, and business development experience to deliver high-quality, innovative mechanical system designs across commercial, institutional, and mission-critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring design excellence, code compliance, and client satisfaction.

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers, fostering professional growth and maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Oversee project planning, resource allocation, budgets, and schedules for multiple concurrent projects.

  • Review and approve mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable codes (ASHRAE, IMC, local regulations).

  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to define project scope, objectives, and design strategies.

  • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals, client presentations, and technical guidance.

  • Promote innovation in mechanical system design, sustainability, and energy efficiency practices.

  • Support quality assurance/quality control processes and risk management initiatives.

  • Represent the mechanical engineering team in internal leadership meetings and client engagements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required; multiple state registrations preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within an MEP consulting firm.

  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and complex projects.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.

  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software.

  • Exceptional communication, client management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong understanding of codes, standards, and best practices for commercial, institutional, and mission-critical projects.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with healthcare, data centers, higher education, or large commercial projects.

  • Familiarity with sustainable design certifications (LEED, WELL, or similar).

  • Experience supporting business development and client relationship management.
