Overview

We are seeking an experienced AV Design Engineer to support the planning, engineering, and documentation of advanced audiovisual systems for commercial, corporate, and institutional clients in New York City. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AV system design, strong technical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and engineer AV systems, including video conferencing, presentation, digital signage, audio systems, and control solutions.

  • Develop detailed system schematics, rack layouts, cable schedules, and construction documents.

  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, electrical engineers, and IT teams to ensure AV system integration with other building systems.

  • Select AV equipment and technologies that align with project goals, budgets, and client requirements.

  • Perform site assessments and field surveys to verify project conditions and system requirements.

  • Review architectural drawings and specifications to provide design input and ensure seamless installation coordination.

  • Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of AV systems during installation.

  • Maintain and adhere to AV design standards, best practices, and industry codes.

  • Stay current with emerging AV technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions.

Qualifications
  • 3–7+ years of experience in AV system design and engineering.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, and AV design software.

  • Strong knowledge of AV technologies, including DSPs, video conferencing platforms, displays, speakers, and control systems.

  • Experience with leading AV manufacturers such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC, Shure, or similar.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CTS or CTS-D certification.

  • Experience with AV-over-IP, enterprise AV, and networked AV systems.

  • Familiarity with low-voltage cabling infrastructure and coordination with other trades.

  • Experience in corporate, higher-education, or large-scale commercial projects.
