Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director – Electrical to lead and oversee electrical engineering projects within a multidisciplinary MEP consulting environment. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise, leadership skills, and business development capabilities to drive high-quality electrical design and project delivery across complex commercial, institutional, and mission-critical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for electrical engineering projects, ensuring design excellence, code compliance, and client satisfaction.
Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, fostering professional growth and maintaining high-quality standards.
Oversee project planning, resource allocation, budgets, and schedules for multiple concurrent projects.
Review and approve electrical designs, specifications, drawings, and calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, local regulations).
Collaborate with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to define project scope, objectives, and design strategies.
Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals, client presentations, and technical guidance.
Promote innovation in electrical system design, sustainability, and energy efficiency practices.
Support quality assurance/quality control processes and risk management initiatives.
Represent the electrical engineering team in internal leadership meetings and client engagements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
PE licensure required; multiple state registrations preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, preferably within an MEP consulting firm.
Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and complex projects.
Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, backup power, and low-voltage systems.
Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
Exceptional communication, client management, and interpersonal skills.
Strong understanding of codes, standards, and best practices for commercial, institutional, and mission-critical projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with large-scale, mission-critical, healthcare, or data center projects.
Familiarity with sustainable design certifications (LEED, WELL, or similar).
Experience supporting business development and client relationship management.
